Sažetak
Contemporary design related to engineering elements in addition to the many details including the assessment of the lifetime the structural member. The lifetime of the structural member may be one of the most important tasks in the optimal design procedure of considered element. In this sense, to assess mentioned lifetime under uniaxial cyclic fatigue for certain asymmetry factor, a numerical solution was developed. Algorithm is based on the model proposed by Forman, while stress intensity factor was determined using finite element procedure. The model is applied to a specimen defined by standard but also to the specimen that may be encountered as a part of real structure, and is therefore independent of the prescribed geometry. The study related to two materials and that martensitic stainless steel 1.4548 (X5CrNiCuNb16-4 / AISI 17-4PH) and austenitic stainless steel 2.4668 (Inconel 718 / ASTM B637). The obtained results were checked with those available from the literature and, and hence the apparent good agreement can be considered as satisfactory.
