Sažetak
Introduction: Warthin’s tumour (WT) is the second most common tumour of the salivary gland. WT accounts for 4-13% of all salivary gland tumours. WT arising from the submandibular gland is very infrequent with corresponding incidence of 2.3 %. Also bilateral localisation of WT account 5-14% of all tumours of parotid. A Case Report: A 64-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital because of cardiac dysfunction. Clinical examination showed cardiac arrhythmia and bilateral submandibular masses. Ultrasonography (US) showed bilateral submadibular nodules and hypoechogenic nodule of left thyroid lobe. FNAB under US guidance was performed of all three nodules and smears were MMG stained. Cytological analyses of sumbandibular slides showed groups of oncocytes, phagocytes and lymphocytes and was indicative of WT. Cytological analyses of thyroid slides showed cellular smears with papillary formations of tumour cells with intranuclear inclusion and multinucleated giant cells that was indicative of papillary carcinoma of thyroid gland. The patient died of cardiac arrest. On the autopsy WT of submandibular glands and papillary carcinoma of thyroid were confirmed. Conclusion: FNAB under US guidance is an accurate technique for correct diagnosis of tumours of the neck. This is especially important in patient with multiple nodules and precise diagnosis of various pathologic findings in every specific nodule.
