Sažetak
Due to the rapid rate at which organizations around the world work, communicate and learn ; managers need to be equipped with the skills how to make decisions in a very limited time frame but at the same time considering all the necessary information. Our role as business educators carries an important mission in expanding students’ productive capabilities and preparing them for their future managerial roles. We claim that business students are being prepared for positions of authority ; therefore 21st century business education should considerably aid students in thinking beyond profitability and self-interest. Business classes need to dedicate time to the non-rational decision making in order to raise students’ awareness of tacit knowledge, implicit learning and intuitive judgments, and not just focus on quantitative/logical decision making approaches. Business schools provide an essential evolution in management education’s and should incorporate courses that develop students’ systemic thinking. Most people have extreme difficulty conceptualizing behavior over time and anticipating the impact of feedback loops. The references we present in our paper indicate that this difficulty transcends several demographic characteristics, among other age, national origin, and educational background. Practical implication from the findings is that we need to train business students in principles and tools of systemic thinking in order for them to be able to make good (efficient and ethical) decisions in complex social systems. Developing character strengths, such as open mindedness, compassion, and humility through reflection can strengthen ethical decision making. Cases are a frequent part of management education, therefore the case of effective and responsible decision making would involve generating innovative new alternatives. Managers are endowed with a legitimacy and power that is exclusively available to them ; therefore they should be aware of their higher responsibility in decision making. Understanding why students decide and behave as they do enables educators to appreciate their concerns and design appropriate curriculum. In accordance with above mentioned consideration in empirical part we provide an insight into how the specific tool of systemic thinking may support decision making. The research question set is as follows: Do new technologies provide potential to support responsible decision making? The technical support used in research included a case of 58 participants is Super Decisions Software. The preliminary findings approve the presumption that technology is a reliable and valuable partner in the responsible decision making process.
