Sažetak
Lignocellulose consists of cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin. During the acidic pre- treatment of lignocellulose, hemicellulose is degraded to pentose (xylose and arabinose) and hexose sugars (glucose, mannose, galactose), acids (acetic acid, formic acid and levulinic acid), and furans (furfural and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural). Obtained hydrolysates are usually detoxified by different expensive and long-lasting methods that can be used to detoxify obtained hydrolysates. In order to optimize the process of lactic acid production from lignocelluosic hydrolysates and possibly to avoid or minimize detoxification steps, it is necessary to determine the influence of inhibitors formed during acid pre-treatment of different lignocellulosic feedstocks. The effect of major toxic substances present in hydrolysates should be determined, but the concentration of furans can be used as a valuable indicator to predict the inhibition. Therefore, in this work the influence of different concentrations of furfural (from 100 to 5000 mg L-1) on growth and lactic acid production by lactic acid bacteria Lactobacillus amylovorus DSM 20531T was investigated. The results obtained show significant reduction in bioprocess efficiency parameters with increase of medium furfural concentration.
