Sažetak
The 'precision medicine' concept promises to revolutionize patient care and treatment decisions by an approach that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment and lifestyle for each particular person. Precision medicine is being rapidly embraced by biomedical researchers, pioneering clinicians and scientific funding agencies. Targeted treatments fo many diseases are already available for the past decade. Direct acting antivirals in the treatment of HCV infection as well as genetic testing currently used to tailor available treatment options based on HCV genotype, previous treatment status, and degree of progression represent an entry of precision medicine in the field of HCV treatment. Key concepts and challenges of precision medicine as well as overpromising on its potential to transform patient care will be disscussed.
