Sažetak
Macroseismic data for eight historical earthquakes in the coastal Croatian region of Kvarner bay (Hrvatsko primorje)from Klana to northern Mt. Velebit were (re)assessed by consulting all available archive material we could locate. It includes historical texts, studies, reports, macroseismic questionnaires, book chapters, articles, etc. related to the events of 17 December 1750 and 10 August 1838 near Bakar, 1 March 1870 close to Klana, 28 July 1893 in Lika, 16 September 1904 near Bakar, 12 March 1916 close to Novi Vinodolski, and two earthquakes on the island of Krk (5 and 6 February 1939). For most events we were able to find new data which helped us to improve existing isoseismal maps or compile new ones, and consequently increase reliability of locations and estimated intensities and magnitudes. Those earthquakes all had epicentral intensity between VII and VIIIMSK, and caused extensive material damage, but no human casualties. We hope the new data will help to improve hazard estimates in this region.
