Sažetak
LaFollette proposed that in order to protect children from abuse and neglect caused by their parents the best solution would be to implement parental licenses to prospective parents. In this talk I will re-evaluate his proposal by looking at various facts and data related to child abuse and neglect. It will be suggested that (a) parenting as a profession does not satisfy the third criteria that LaFollette puts for introduction of licenses and which is “The benefit of the licensing program outweigh any theoretical reasons against it (LaFollette, 2010: 328)”, (b) that it would subject to many people to unnecessary tests and (c) that parenting can't be compared to other professions for which licenses are usually issued.
