Sažetak
Women with Body Mass Index ( BMI) over 30 kg/m2 are considered obese. Obesity has a negative impact on reproductive health and on health in general. Higher rates of congenital anomalies, preterm birth, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, cesarian delivery are described among obese pregnant women. Goal of our research was to determine rates of adverse pregnancy outcomes asociated with maternal obesity. We analyzed date of 310 women who gave birth at Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb in 2014. 106 women had normal BMI, 134 women had BMI 30–34, 9 kg/m2, 47 had BMI 35–39, 9 kg/m2 and 23 women had morbid obesity with BMI >40 kg/m2. Demographic data and pregnancy outcomes were compared between described interest groups. Our results demonstrated that obese pregnant women had signifi cantly higher rates of gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, fetal macrosomia and cesarian delivery compared to normal weight women, thereby confi rming the link between maternal obesity and adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes.
