Sažetak
A baptismal font with an interesting dedicatory inscription mentioning a certain dux Wissasclavus has been known since the middle of the 19th century. It was found in the Capuchin monastery in Giudecca in Venice and it was commissioned by Presbyter Iohannes, as stated in the inscription. The inscription attracted much attention in Croatian historiography due to the widely accepted interpretation that it came to Venice in 1746 from Nin, a town on the Croatian coast that became the see of the first Croatian bishop during the 9th century. The author attempts to identify the donor, Presbyter Iohannes. He was the person acting as an emissary of Pope John VIII in the diplomatic missions between AD 874 and 886, among the Slav rulers in Croatia, Moravia and Bulgaria. In addition, there is evidence that the baptismal font was kept in the Capuchin monastery in Giudecca before 1746, which means that it is not originally from Nin.
