Sažetak
This diploma thesis deals with the adaptation of turkisms on the semantic level in Vrgorac dialect. In order to see if the turkisms under research underwent any semantic changes in the process of linguistic borrowing, Rudolf Filipović's approach will be used as a guide due to his immense contribution to the field of contact linguistics. Furthermore, before analyzing turkisms in the semantic fields of animals, clothes, everyday activites, food, household, plants, and tools, a short historical overview of the town of Vrgorac will be given to relate the historical with the linguistic aspects of this particular area. Moreover, in order to acquaint ourselves with the Vrgorac dialect, its main characteristics will be described.
