Sažetak
Self – healing materials are a type of smart materials that have the ability to repair themselves. In nature, we are all surrounded with a wide range of self – healing materials, and if, for example, you prune a tree or branch, you cut some of the branches off, but the tree has still the ability to grow, and, on the other side, if you accidentally cut yourself, your body initiates an emergency response, in order to repair the wound. Recently, a new generation of smart coatings appeared that will gradually replace the conventional coatings systems. As every project manager is aware of, maintenance costs of projects that include protection coatings are usually very high and have a tendency to last long. These types of self-healing coatings will remove that additional cost. We have tried to produce a two-component polyurethane waterborne coating, based on self-healing materials, with some different properties, in comparison to conventional coatings for applications on plastic. We have added some different additives to modify the mechanical properties which include bending resistance, flexibility, impact resistance and the most important test - scratch resistance. This work presents a new generation of coatings, which use silicon surfactant additive, with a considerable reduction of surface tension and an increase in a substrate wetting. It is important to mention that an aliphatic, hydroxyl-functional polycarbonate ester-polyurethane dispersion used as a binder creates a best structure with the other segments in the coatings. We have also tried to improve the scratch resistance properties of the self – healing coatings. The result of scratch resistance test, according to the report ASTM D7027 – 13, is exactly as expected. After making a scratch on a 30 microns film of the self-healing coating, after which the surface has been heated, the scratches will disappear. There is still a long way to go, in order to achieve a final result, as we are only at the beginning. It is hopeful to think that we will soon use self-healing coatings on all surfaces, in order to have a cleaner environment, as well as cost effective coatings.
