Sažetak
Variables such as fonts, backgrounds and text layouts have an impact on readability (Rello et al., 2013). Their modifications in text presentation might alleviate some of the problems readers experience while reading (Gregor and Newell, 2000). Accordingly, it is expected that dyslexia-friendly font helps improve reading for children with different language impairments. The aim of this study was to compare reading of three 8-year- old children: child with language impairment (LI), child with nonverbal learning disability (NVLD) and typically developing child (TLD), using two texts with different fonts (Dyslexie Font and Courier New). The study was carried out using eye-tracking device (SMI Red-M system) and measuring the following variables: total reading time, total fixation duration, number of fixations, saccades and regressions. The results indicate the following: when the text is written in dyslexia-friendly font 1) reading time for all three children is reduced ; 2) for the child with LI, number of fixations, saccades and regressions is slightly bigger than in the more complex font, while for the child with NVLD only number of regressions slightly increases ; 3) nevertheless, for all three participants total fixation duration is smaller. The results will be further discussed to set up the ground for more elaborated study.
