Sažetak
Pile foundation is one of the standard type of foundation construction in geotechnical engineering. Piles are commonly analysed on vertical loads since its primary function is to transfer stresses from high deformable and low bearing soil layers into deeper, low deformable and high bearing soil layers. As a secondary function, piles have to withstand lateral forces caused by wind, earthquakes, water waves and even by landslide movements. Lateral behaviour of piles have been analysed by many different authors from whose tests procedures for calculating soil resistance curves have been established. Focus of their studies were on laterally loaded piles embedded in sandy or clayey soil. This paper is focused on the research of pile behaviour in natural sandy gravels since there are just limited data about the pile behaviour in this type of soil. Tests presented in this paper are performed on bored concrete single pile embedded in natural sandy gravels. Deflections of a piles were measured with inclinometer probes through the inclinometer casings installed in pile. Measured deflections of laterally loaded pile embedded in natural sandy gravels are compared with the results of analysis by using the mixed finite element approach (four-field) of linear pile behaviour in non – linear Winkler soil model.
