Sažetak
Heavy traffic load and current problematic condition of the urban traffic control (UTC) of the City of Zagreb is threatening with a traffic collapse in the entire city area. The advanced management systems are becoming a necessity. Although slowly, the obsolete contact signal devices are being replaced in Zagreb by microprocessor devices that will facilitate traffic-dependent control of individual intersections, arteries and zones. Nowadays, only inductive loop is used as sensor technology. The declared possibilities of inductive loop regarding gathering of traffic data are only one of the criteria for the evaluation of sensors. Long-standing experience of the experts and the analysis of archive documentation of the maintenance service provide useful data regarding installation, failures and maintenance of the loop, with the aim of future evaluation of the sensor technologies in the automatic traffic control systems.
