Sažetak
Most Southeast European district heating systems belong in the so called first or second generation meaning that they operate with very high supply temperatures, often above 100°C, making the implementation of heat pumps and renewable heat sources such as solar very difficult. In order to change this, a deep renovation of the building stock is necessary. Since this is a capitally very intensive operation it is not realistic to expect the simultaneous renovation of the entire stock and system at once making a gradual process more probable. This approach would however complicate the operation since it highly modifies the thermal requirements of the renovated buildings. The goal of this paper is to develop and demonstrate a model for the optimisation of the investment into and the operation of a fourth generation district heating system which would include the deep renovation of the included buildings, utilization of highly efficient heating and cooling technologies, energy storage, renewables and power to heat systems but also power generation capacities such as PV. The model has been tested on a case study for a neighbourhood in the Croatian city of Velika Gorica.
