Sažetak
Imaging of the hip and pelvis varies depending on the suspected pathology. Radiography (X-ray) is usually initial diagnostic method, capable of depicting deformities and congenital bony abnormalities and in most cases bony injuries. Computed tomography (CT), which has higher spatial resolution compared with X-ray, is a superior imaging method for the hip and pelvis fractures and dislocations. Using multiplanar (MPR) and 3D reconstructions, CT is valuable in pre-operative planning, providing better visualization of bony fragments and their position. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound (US) are both non-ionizing radiological methods preferred for imaging soft-tissue changes. Although US enables functional examination due to dynamic scanning in the real time, its major limitation is in visualization of superficially located structures only. With excellent contrast resolution MRI is high valuable imaging method for intra-articular lesions, particularly chondro-labral lesions, frequently performed with intra-articular contrast admission. It is also the only radiological method for imaging bone marrow edema and in most cases a method of choice for imaging both bony and soft-tissue pathology at the same time.
