Sažetak
In this work, the basic principles of the development of a Web application for efficient temporal and spatial data presentations from a specialized information system for river navigation surveillance are set out. Object-Oriented (OO) approach and contemporary information and Internet technologies were applied to achieve this goal. New browsers, with extendible functionality realized by plug-ins and Java VM, through their wide dissemination, represent a high quality platform for the development of client-oriented dynamic and interactive applications. The Web application developed enables a dynamic, temporal and spatial presentation of hydrological conditions within longitudinal and transversal river profiles, through interactive digital maps. One of the most important user requests is an automatic display of water level data on such maps. Momentary water levels as well as the water levels for a given date and time can be automatically drawn on the basis of an interpolation of water level data values. Objects from individual layers of digital maps are linked together so that detailed information about them can be provided from a single view. These issues have been currently investigated within a special joint project between the Center for Marine and Environmental Research of the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb and the Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Communications, initiated in 2000.
