Sažetak
Paradata are a source of a lot of valuable information about the interaction of respondents with a questionnaire provided to them using a web survey mode. One of the important indicators of the quality of respondents’ answers is the time invested in completing the questionnaire. The aim of this paper is to investigate the differences in times needed to complete the questionnaire among different categories of enterprises. In order to inspect the questionnaire completion times, data obtained from the web survey about statistical methods use conducted among Croatian enterprises in 2013 was used. The research has shown that small enterprises on average needed statistically significantly less time to complete the questionnaire than the large ones. On the other hand, the difference between small and medium-sized enterprises was not statistically significant. Further analysis has shown that there is no statistically significant difference in time needed to complete a longer questionnaire if the enterprises were observed according to their main activity. However, if enterprises have completed a shorter questionnaire, the difference in average times needed for completing the questionnaire between Industrial, Service and Trade enterprises became statistically significant. The findings of the paper should be used by researchers, survey methodologists and survey questionnaire designers to improve the quality of their business web surveys. Further research should also investigate and emphasize other potential uses of paradata in business surveys.
