Sažetak
Recent studies indicated the role of the Interferon-gama-Interleukin-12 axis in the susceptibility to mycobacterial infection. We wished to determine the frequency of interferon-gama receptor-1 gene (IFNGR1) variants in diseased population (n+119), hospitalized in Rijeka, Croatia. The aim was to study genetic (CA) microsatellite polymorphism within the IFNGR1 gene in this ethnic group, and compare allelic frequencies with controls (n=93)that we believe were exposed to the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We have found a trend for association of several allelic markers with the disease. Furthermore, homozygosity of one allele was found at significantly higher levels in patients with tuberculosis (p<x, yz ; 10, 8 % vs. 4, 8%). In conclusion, up to 10% of tuberculosis patients show different frequencies for the marker located within the IFNGR1 gene. The implication is that there are putative mutations in the IFNGR1 gene possibly associated with tuberculosis in this ethnic population, with prevalence not larger than 10%.
