Sažetak
The aim of the paper was to raise awareness of the impportance of collocations as well as context and situation, in the creation and utilization of collocations. Our particular field of interese were collocations found in texts dealing with petroleum engineering. Efforts were made to show how the core meaning expressed in one language is communicated in another, how this non-specific meaning becomes more specific in in two different languages and the differences that exist between the two languages analyzed. Apart from the theoretical linguistic approach, we also wanted to point out the importance of extra linguistic context, which is crucial in shaping the actual shades of meaning.
