Sažetak
Enterprise zones are areas with developed infrastructure that facilitate small and medium-sized business development. Here, an overview is presented of a ten-year period of economic activity in Varazdin County, Croatia, with a special emphasis on its enterprise zones. The paper discusses the benefits of developing enterprise zones and presents certain challenges that often occur in the process. The results show that the trends regarding the number of enterprises in Varazdin County are compatible with national trends. However, there are observable differences in the number of employees these enterprises have at the County level and the national level. The contribution of enterprise zones to the County’s economic activity is certainly observable. However, there is still room for improvement.
