Sažetak
The aim of the study was to investigate the allelopathic effect of caraway (Carum carvi L.) on germination and growth of weed species hoary cress (Lepidium draba L.). Experiments with seed cogermination and water extracts from fresh and dry caraway biomass were conducted under laboratory conditions. Cogermination of caraway and weed seeds significantly reduced hoary cress germination up to 37.2%, but had no effect on seedlings growth. Caraway extracts from fresh biomass in concentrations of 5 and 10% reduced weed seed germination, and significantly increased seedlings shoot length. Application of extracts from dry caraway biomass inhibited both weed germination and growth up to 100% in treatments with higher extract concentration. On average, dry plant biomass had greater inhibitory potential.
