Sažetak
The longitudinal distance between two groups of investigated water bodies (Poland and Croatia), accounting for ca. 700 kilometers, results in slightly different climatic conditions (especially in the summer and in the winter) and thus it can have a great impact on the functioning of aquatic ecosystems, especially such as our shallow water bodies, and can be reflected in the variation of zooplankton community structure. To minimise the effect of drying out (in the case of Croatia) and freezing to the bottom (in the case of Poland) we chose two seasons (spring and autumn), characterized by the lack (after winter) and decaying mode (after summer optimum) of vegetation, to establish the specificity of zooplankton communities and responsible factors. Moreover, to avoid the effect of vertebrate predation on zooplankton we chose only water bodies with the fish presence. An analysis (Anosim) of abiotic features (temperature, oxygen, conductivity, pH, nitrate, phosphate, chlorophyll a) revealed a high level of similarity between water bodies in the spring season and a clear segregation between Polish and Croatian water bodies in the autumn. This was probably
