Sažetak
Attractiveness of small old towns, usually representing fortified heritage, is continuously growing. Therefore, local communities are facing a new challenge – how to emphasize the image of small old towns, and how to support development of tourism, having in mind ecology of the area and socio-cultural attributes of the local population. New opportunities of small old towns in Croatia and Kvarner region are presented in the paper, together with a specific model of sustainable tourism development. Strategy, specific accommodation capacities and old traditional houses are also presented since they support and represent sustainable development of tourism for local community. Tourism should significantly improve local economy and quality of living in the area since it offers possibilities for new entrepreneurship activities and self-employment.
