Sažetak
Being aware that notions like 'nation', 'national music' and 'history' (both general and musical) are intellectual constructs used in research and for interpretative goals with the necessarily differing backgrounds of their promotors, produced in changing time and social circumstances and with diverse strategic aims of their inventors, in a broad spectrum from 'objective' to 'nationalistic', we are trying to offer hereby a perspective for a possible future Croatian music historiography that could well establish a balance between different interests and orientations in both - contemplating music and filling cognitive gaps in territorial, temporal and phenomenological areas covered by the entity defined as Croatia. In this, the syntagm: 'national music history vs. history of musical regions and centres' could naturally redirect the antagonistic character of its constituent notions towards a rather co-operative direction, reading: 'national musical history consisting of histories of musical regions and centres'. Thus many deviations - including nationalistic and ideological ones in both Croatia and its neighbourhood (Italian, Slovenian, Austrian, Hungarian, Serbian, Bosnian-Herzegovinian, Montenegrinian) - might be avoided and overcome, opening the gate to the intellectual co-operation beyond today's nation-state borders, instead of exercising open or latent confrontation of their respective music-historical constructs and their exclusivistic and/or expansionistic tendencies.
