Sažetak
The non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TGA) data and isoconversional model-free methods are often used to study kinetics of thermal decomposition of energetic materials. However, this approach is based on a number of requirements, which may limit its application. As the consequence of a cursory use of thermal analysis data and model-free methods in evaluation of kinetic parameters, the values of kinetic parameters reported in literature may differ considerably. In our previous studies on double base and single base propellants we have found that testing conditions (sample mass, heating rate, type of sample pan, etc.) may significantly affect kinetic results. The effect was much more pronounced in the case of double base propellants, which also show existence of a discontinuity and slope change of the Ozawa plot. The results of this study show that for a reliable kinetic analysis of thermal data for double base propellants one has to take into account complex decomposition mechanisms, as well as to fine tune experimental conditions so to satisfy necessary requirements for kinetic analysis. In order to minimise sample self-heating effect, the mass should be less than 1 mg and heating rates slower than 3 oC min-1. The kinetic analysis shows that for small sample mass and slower heating rates the activation energy of the double base propellant under study, calculated by Ozawa-Flynn-Wall method, was found to be 173.8 kJ mol-1, while for faster heating rates it was found to be 151.6 kJ mol-1. Numerical simulation based on kinetics of individual reactions and processes taking place, confirmed the complexity of the kinetic analysis of thermal data for DB propellants and limitations of model free kinetic methods.
