Sažetak
Canine babesiosis is a widespread parasitic disease, characterised by inflammation, which pathophysiology is similar to human malaria. In inflammation, cells chaperones can be released into the extracellular environment leading to increased plasma concentrations. Transthyretin, albumin and thyroxine-binding globulin are the main thyroxine transporters and negative acute phase proteins. Their concentration can fall markedly in a wide range of illnesses.Canine babesiosis was characterised by increase of plasma HSP 60. A non-thyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS) is present, characterised by low plasma T4 and normal TSH. The fall in T4 can be attributed at least in a part to an acute phase response characterised by low thyroxine transporters, TTR and ALB. Because HSP 60 have been associated with pro-inflammatory activity, the possible role of extracellular HSPs in NTIS have to be fourther investigated.
