Sažetak
The concept of competitiveness has in the last decades extended from the micro-level of firms to the macro-level of countries. Between the two levels stands the concept of regional competitiveness which is the focus of the “EU Regional Competitiveness Index”. Regional competitiveness index in Croatia is on very low level, and the global crisis makes it even worst. Lack of investments and human resources development deepen the Croatian standards. Many quality projects have stopped, their implementation is questionable and the regional policy in Croatia is not on the right path. SMEs are struggling for their survival, but they cannot develop without the help of the government. In this paper we will present the result of research conducted through an interview 47 SMEs and 15 EU project consultants to determine the main problems of grant “Support for Increasing the Competitiveness of Croatian SMEs”.
