Sažetak
Almost the least century, curriculums and teaching and learning theories of the technology education, at all levels, implicitly based on behaviorism. The constructivist theory can play a significant role in a thorough transformation of the future technology education. Preparing students for future jobs in engineering and manufacturing, and advancement in the workplace in the new socio economic circumstances, not only requires the development of skills for a job, but also required additional skills for specified ways of thinking, problem solving and collaborative working skills. The behaviorist theory of education could not effectively respond to these new problems, but constructivist theory might be able to. In this regard it is essential to constructivist principles deal with the basic requirements of modern engineering education, in order to successfully meet the new challenges. The analysis of the three main constructivist directions, cognitive constructivism showed the highest compatibility with the requirements of engineering education, not as an exclusive theory, but in combination with existing successful behavioristic approaches. This combination may represent a theoretical framework underlying the technology education, particularly in vocational and professional educational fields. Accepting such a fundamental change, requires from scientists and experts in technology education rethinking the fundamental starting points and assumptions, such as: mission, curriculum and pedagogical approach to engineering education.
