Sažetak
Multidisciplinary research in the area of ICT-based systems for Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) has been intensified recently in Croatia, bringing together scientists and professionals from areas such as ICT, computer science, education, rehabilitation, psychology and design. These systems provide support for communication, learning, and efficient execution of daily activities for persons with complex communication needs (CCN) and may increase their social inclusion. The presentation will focus on some of the results of Croatian researchers within recently finished project financed by the EU "IPA IIIc Science and Innovation Investment Fund": established competence network and more than 20 mobile (Android/iOS) and web applications targeting specific user group of people with CCN. The applications are downloaded more than 20, 000 times and have on average 60 new users every day. Their popularity can be attributed to their design and content which suits not only the needs of persons with CCN but also the needs of persons without CCN. Since developed applications are localized in the Croatian language, benefits of such applications surpasses the national level and they are also used in neighboring countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia (e.g. school for the children with disabilities “Milan Petrović”, Novi Sad) and Slovenia.
