Sažetak
Walt Disney enjoyed the well-deserved popularity in the world of animated movies, introducing to the world many new innovations that enriched animation. By sharing certain views on life with children, Disney was a target of many critics that argued that he was responsible for introducing children to stereotypes and his own understanding of morality and values, thereby negatively affecting children’s social and cognitive development. There are many positive and negative effects associated with Disney animated films, but these films predominantly constitute entertainment for young people and adults alike. This paper discusses the influence of Disney animated movies on children’s cognitive and social development, in other words the effect that these animated movies have on children’s understanding and development of morality, values and perception of the world in which they live. Because older children (7-12) are capable of ordering objects and events into logical sequences, and comprehend the principle of conservation, they can watch animated movies critically and use them as a tool for problem solving or understanding a certain aspect of their life, as well as their own behaviour.
