Sažetak
The activity of fashion production by definition presupposes a large number of users and the social recognition of its own preconditions. This concept of fashion could not be realized in the 1980s in the social context of the 1980s socialist system in Croatia. The so-called "alternative fashion", on the other hand, was an inevitably hopeless production in the context of Croatian socialism. The social status of alternative fashion was was rooted in the individual expression of unique lifestyles, recognized by a handful of like-minded participants of one's own group. In such a context, the products of alternative fashion, denied the whole system by their mere existence. Since the products of alternative fashion were essentially useless and produced as highly individualized items, it is best to classify the the whole field as "art". However, this approach did not count with the conception of art as a productive force found in the postmodern cultural context.
