Sažetak
Silk was one of the most important commodities in the world economy for over two millenia. During the Renaissance, silk manufacturing constituted one of the most important economic activities of Italy. By the fifteenth century, Venice had become one of the foremost silk weaving centres of Europe – at the height of the production, Venetian weavers were operating one thousand looms producing silks for the home market and three thousand for export cloth. Venetian early modern silks preserved up to this day in Dalmatia are mainly found on vestments and other items of liturgical use. Survived examples and archival records testify that Venetian silks were considered products of prestige, not only due to their high quality but also to their appealing and fashionable patterns. This was presented through the cases of three specific types of 16th century Venetian textiles preserved in Dalmatia.
