Sažetak
Due to increasing environmental challenges and rising concern for cutting costs, companies have experienced a shifting focus to financial sustainability in their logistics operations. As there is no literature with an extant definition for financial sustainability, the purpose of this paper is to explain the concept, basic principles and key elements of financial sustainability. Moreover, this paper is investigating the relationships between financial sustainability and the greening of some logistics activities. In order to clarify the financial sustainability of environmentally responsible activities in managing logistics services and the ways how environmentally responsible activities contribute in achieving financial sustainability in a company as a whole, it has been explored with the qualitative study among the top retail companies operating in the Croatian market. The results show that although environmentally responsible activities have the highest priority in retailers` strategic and financial planning, such activities are not widespread among retail companies today due to their long payback period, and that initiatives with short financial payback periods are mainly preferred.
