Sažetak
The paper takes a look into the role and importance of rural tourism as an alternative in tourism. A few examples of its successful development in some countries are given. The objective of the paper is to investigate and demonstrate the rol played by rural tourism in Croatia and in the Dubrovnik region. The Dubrovnik region has rich Resources for the development of this kind of tourism. Rural tourism is a factor in the improvement of the tourist supply. It allows tourists to become familiar with rural lifestyles, authentic landscape values and exceptional gourmet specialties by which each region is identified, and which cannot be repeated in any other environment.
