Sažetak
The Eurasian Bittrn is a localised breeder across Europe with population strongholds in central and eastern Europe. Western populations along the Atlantic coast and Mediterranean are sedentary, but the eastern populations migrate in south and south-western directions wintering from the north Mediterranean to sub-Saharan Africa. It is a regular, but rare, breeder in Croatia with an estimated breeding population of 40-70 booming males. The population is decreasing and it is listed as Endangered on the Croatian Red List. Its secretive solitary life and breeding habitat characteristics are the main causes for the very low numbers ringed. There is only one recovery of a Croatian bird shot, after five months, in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Three foreign recoveries of birds from Finland, Lithuania and Austria confirm the migration route towards the south-southwest and occasional wintering in the Pannonian Plain. Migration routes, stopover and wintering sites of the Croatian population are unknown.
