Sažetak
Recent mixed migration flows also include migrants separated children/unaccompanied minors, who are among the most vulnerable groups of migrants. Although an insignificant number of unaccompanied minors have been registered in recent refugee flows along the Balkan route, in the past six years there has been a notable increase in numbers of unaccompanied minors transiting through Croatia. State policies and measures aimed at the welfare and protection of unaccompanied minors include national mechanisms in the field of establishing the identity and age of a minor, appointing a guardian, providing accommodation and ensuring freedom of movement, providing legal and financial support, as well as health and social services, enabling language learning and education, and lastly, making possible their reunification with a family. Based on the qualitative research among the relevant stakeholders involved in the system of their protection and care, using interviews’ content analysis, we discus some of the most important challenges in the field of language learning and education, as well as in the guardianship system, looking also on general role of caregivers for integration of unaccompanied minor migrants.
