Sažetak
One of the coolest things in science is that even seemingly everyday objects periodically yield physical surprises. A striking example was the news a few years ago: the observation that, under the right circumstances, x-rays can be generated by peeling of Scotch tape, but also occurs in many everyday products such as some sorts of envelope adhesive and even sugar. Similar observations have been made with numerous organic and inorganic substances. The phenomenon is an extreme example of the phenomenon triboluminescence, so we wanted to give you a closer look at the results of previous researches. This paper will give an overview of past efforts to scientifically describe a relatively little known triboluminiscence effect. Triboluminescence is defined as the light emitted by materials when rubbed or broken. The paper will present its applications, theoretical background and some of the recent results, related to the area of triboluminiscence. Knowledge of this effect is daily accumulated, which results in more and more of its application.
