Sažetak
The soybean breeding program at the Agricultural Insitute Osijek is primary aimed at increasing yields of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) in Croatia. The objective of this research was to evaluate the genetic improvement of the grain yield and grain quality of 20 soybean promising lines in comparison to four commercial cultivars 0 maturity group during five-year period (1993-1997) in Eastern Croatia (Osijek). The promising lines, evaluated in this study, were chosen on the basis of their maturity and values of agronomic traits in a previous cycle of selection. We estimated the mean value, heritability, achieved and relative genetic gains from the selection, as well as the stability of grain yield and grain quality (protein and oil content). According to the obtained results of our research of soybean lines which showed that the genetic improvement in the major agronomic traits was achieved in soybean breeding program at the Insitute.
