Sažetak
Soil properties, such as pH, soil organic matter (SOM), dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and total trace element concentration, control the solubility of metals in the soil. Using these parameters as predictors, several authors derived a regression models predicting trace element solubility in polluted and slightly polluted soils. We analyzed soil samples from unpolluted agricultural and forest soils of eastern Croatia for water extractable fraction of Zn, Cd, Cu and Pb and applied it to existing regression models. The objective of our study was to test the existing models developed on polluted soils on our data from unpolluted soils. The same predictors and the same regression coefficients were taken into account for Croatian soils. The results showed good correlation between the predictions. However the models seem to overestimate the trace element concentration, therefore the best fit regression models were created to correct the equation and to get the accurate prediction. The research has showed that pH, DOC and CEC play an important role in the solubility and mobility of trace elements in the soils investigated, rather than the total concentration. However the total concentration is often used as an indicator of toxicity levels, which could be misleading.
