Sažetak
Our interpretation of the results in acidic solutions is self consistent, and in agreement with the predictions made by two of us some years ago based on our fluctuation correlation model of the adsorption of the hydroxide ion. They do not depend on the interpretation of the behaviour of sodium ions in alkaline solutions. We did not claim evidence in the paper for surface adsorption of hydroxide in the absence of the background electrolyte. Rather, we point out that on lowering the pH of neat water from pH 7, the results are consistent with such hydroxide adsorption.
