Sažetak
Samples of indigenous medicinal plants Croatian spruce (Picea abies), savory (Satureja montana. L.), mountain yarrow (Achillea clavenae) showy calamint (Calamintha grandiflora), micromeria (Micromeria croatica), yellow gentian (Gentiana lutea) and fir (Abies alba) were collected in the National Park Northern Velebit. The macro- and trace elements content, after microwave digestion, were determined by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS). The accuracy of the methods expressed by the recovery determined by spiking experiments for micro- and macroelements ranged from 78 up to 118 %. The limits of detection of the elements of interest were less than 2 μg g-1 for microwave digested samples of medical plant for ICP-AES and for 2 ng g-1 ICP-MS. Considering major essential elements important for human beings the medical plants analysed contain Ca, K, Mg and Na in mg g-1 concentration, while the trace elements (essential and non essential) As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Li, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Se, Sr and Zn are present at g g-1 level. Thus apart from the beneficial content of essential elements, the obtained results show that the potentially toxic trace elements are present in most of the investigated medicinal plant specimens below the maximum allowed values.
