Sažetak
Implementation of advanced radiation therapy techniques in clinical practice can greatly improve tumour control and normal tissue sparing. Radiation after surgery improves survival from breast cancer, but it can increase the risk of mortality from heart disease and secondary lung cancer. At University Hospital Rijeka (UHR) radiation therapy of intact breast is performed using 2D and since 2008, 3D treatment planning technique. The aim of this study is to compare 2D with 3D breast plan in breast conserving radiotherapy. Two isodose plans were calculated for each patient involved in this study. 2D and 3D plans were calculated by treatment planing system XiO 5.0, Elekta. For both plans, the volume receiving lover than 95% and greater then 105% of the reference dose were determinated as well as the volume of lung recieving ≤20Gy. Results are analyzed using program package Statistica, StatSoft and will be presented. Implementing 3D CRT into breast radiation therapy has resulted in better dose homogeneity as well as sparing of organs of risk. This increases the probability of tumour control and decreases the probability of late side-effects of radiation.
