Sažetak
The oscillation between these two poles ("the Other(s)" and "the Same", or "the Many" and "the One") vibrates throughout various currents of Postmodernism. Jorge Luis Borges, Argentine author and one of its founders and major practitioners, treats the subject in two different ways. On one hand, Borges introduces the concept of the "divergence of the One", i.e. the concept of one person (usually himself) splitting into two – different or the same ones. On the other hand, he explores the cases of the "convergence into the One" when two –or even more– different persons merge into one. Furthermore, his poetry collection entitled "The Other, the Same" makes an explicit contribution to the subject matter. Considering "metaphysics as a branch of the literature of fantasy", Borges simply subjects philosophy to his "literary" logic and brings literature close to philosophy. Relying on the examples of some of Borges’ poems and short narratives, this work analyzes the two different ways (the two forking paths) he subjects the philosophical concepts of "the Other" and "the Same" to his literary logic.
