Sažetak
The existence of a common European model of ‘Science in and for Society’ policy is visible in two main dimensions: democratization and convergence of SiS policies. Democratization concerns increasing importance of dialog between science and public and convergence is based on the European cultural and political identity rooted on the unique theoretical backgrounds and value orientations coming from the various processes of Europeanization dominated by the core countries. How does it affect sociology? Dominant public sociology represents for some the the end of crisis in sociology. Commitment to now institutionalized and widely embraced perspective for some critics resulted in heavily politicized sociology on the expense of scientific rigor without clear scientific standard. Orientation toward policy sociology will increase governmental demands on sociological research but this aspect is missing in the periphery countries.
