Sažetak
This study was performed in 32 smokers during six years. At the beinning oft he study all smokers were without respiratory symptoms except six who had lower values of FEV50 (3.15±1.2L/s). Eight had positive inhalation challenge test with methacholine (BHR) with PC20FEV1 =1.24±0.76mg/ml. During five consecutive years the group with BHR had significantly greater annual FEV1 decline (51.7±6.9ml.) than the group without BHR (37.1±8.2ml) (t=3.29, p=0.008). After five years they were included into Smoking Cessation Programme and a year later ten of them quit smoking. Results of our further investigations suggests that greater annual FEV1 decline could predict the appearance of COPD in smokers.
