Sažetak
After the Second World War the islands of Brijuni were not only turned into President Tito's residence and second home, but also a high-level security zone. The mainland, especially Fažana as the nearest port, had a number of infrastructural benefits, but had to follow a path of development that was quite different from hundreds of similar places along the Croatian Adriatic coast. The small town retained its image of a fishing village, but due to its industrial base and proximity to Brijuni attracted immigrants from all parts of the Yugoslav federation. While the Adriatic Coast was embracing commercial and foreign tourism, Fažana and its surroundings hosted several resorts which belonged to a system of organised social tourism. They were not regular working-class holiday centres, but resorts for the police and the army, the Party's officials and employees of the federal Presidency, as well as children and youth. In this sense, the resorts were part of the informal security zone of Brijuni. This contribution to the social history of Fažana and its tourism in Yugoslav socialism is based on archival sources, newspapers and oral history.
