Sažetak
In the Republic of Croatia, the road transport infrastructure is constantly developing ensuring better connectivity of different parts of Croatia. At the same time, the development of transport infrastructure has a negative effect on nature and contributes significantly pollutant emissions into the air. Croatian Strategy of the Energy Development recommends a series of measures, such as more stringent technical standards for new vehicles, which are needed to reduce emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. However, one potential problem of environmental pollution is the average age of vehicles. In the Republic of Croatia, the average age of vehicles in 2013 for passenger cars was 11.8 years. Older vehicles do not meet current Euro standards which significantly effects the emission of greenhouse gases and pollution. For this reason, in this paper will be shown a detailed analysis of how vehicle age has an effect on exhaust gases and environmental pollution. The analysis will include different categories of vehicles and other important indicators especially in urban areas where are the highest levels of exhaust emissions and pollution.
