Sažetak
This presentation provides some knowledge about development of civil society associations of persons with disability in the post-war community in the process of social reconstruction. Republic of Croatia, as a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities took over the role of improving the situation of persons with disabilities in society. However, the current crisis of Croatian society has particularly harmed people with disability and their families, as well as their position in society and their participation in everyday life. Beside the state's resources, which are more and more residual, constant support for people with disability of NGOs is becomming a vital resource for their participation in every day life. The article analyses historical, cultural and social context of establishing and developing civil society associations of persons with disability in Croatia. As in other Eastern European countries there was lack of „civil“ experiences in general (such as disability movements and other social movements at all). Even today, when some major prerequisites for sustainable development of civil society in the area of disability are met, there is a demand for paradigmatic shift, cultural and professional changes in raising contribution of these associations to the post- war community (such as strengthening human rights based model, anti-paternalistic, strengths and resilience-oriented perspective and users’ participation)
