Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to point at the necessity for the acquisition of rules of linguistic etiquette in oral and written communication taking place on a daily basis in school context. A broad definition of linguistic etiquette subsumes continuous improvement of language competence at both written and spoken levels. Therefore, it is a component of the national curriculum, mostly of the part relating to native (Croatian) language syllabus. Linguistic etiquette is predominantly taught through a variety of prescribed thematic units of Croatian language syllabus. However, it is also incidentally available in the process of achievement of different educational and functional aims of other school subjects. Finally, linguistic etiquette is developed through indirect bidirectional and multidirectional conversation between different communication participants in school settings. The purpose of linguistic etiquette acquisition is to gain (verbal and other) knowledge and skills that make for competent communications partners.
